Ways to practice Weekly Words
Here are some fun ways to incorporate word study at home to help your child practice our weekly words. By knowing these words the students will have an easier time reading when they don't have to stop and sound out sight words. And, of course, as we all know . . . practice makes (nearly) perfect.
- Rainbow words: write the words in a rainbow of colours, each time saying aloud what each word is.
- Voices: we use this in class too - the students choose a voice (stinky, animal, baby, etc.), spell the word and then say it in that voice.
- Search and find: see if you can find this week's or other week's words around your house, in books you read or out and about.
- Magnet words: use alphabet magnets and a cookie sheet to create the weekly words. Line all the letters up alphabetically then spell and say each word and put the letters back where they belong in the order. Repeat.
- Rhyming words: see how many rhyming words you can find to go with the weekly words.
